Patio Black Spot Remover for All Stone Types

Patio Black Spot Remover cleans patios, garden paths, and driveways. It works on all types of stone, including popular choices Australian homeowners love. These include Sydney Sandstone, Porcelain, Queensland Sandstone, Pre-cast Patio slabs, Victoria Blue Stone and Mount Gambier Limestone. And many more!

What will it clean?

Patio Black Spot Remover is a professional-strength treatment designed to completely remove organic staining from outdoor stone surfaces. It targets black lichen, algae, mould and other organic growth, helping to remove the staining and restore your patio to its natural colour and appearance.

Why is it different to other patio cleaners?

Patio Black Spot Remover does the cleaning for you. Unlike other patio cleaners that rely on aggressive pressure or abrasive scrubbing, Patio Black Spot Remover uses a specialist treatment to target organic staining at its source.

You’ll see results within 10 minutes of application as the Remover removes algae and ingrained dirt from the surface. Leave the product on for 2 hours to see it remove other stubborn organic staining such as black lichen spots.

No matter how old the surface is, you can expect transformation results.

How much do I need?

Each 4-litre container covers a maximum area of 20 square metres.

Patio Cleaner is ready to use straight from the container. Do not dilute.

The older the surface, the more applications that will be required.

We recommend carrying out a trial slab first to see how many applications are needed. The first application will always restore the colour and green algae. The additional applications are only required to remove black spots.

Treat one slab until no spots remain. You’ll then have the confidence the product works and know what’s required to treat the remaining area.

Patio Cleaner is ready to use straight from the container. Do not dilute.

How do I apply?

-       Apply using a 5-7 litre pump-up garden sprayer

-       Leave for 2 hours. No scrubbing or brushing required

-       Lightly wash off with the pressure washer afterwards

-       Re-treat stubborn areas

-       Apply Patio Black Spot Preventer in 11-12 months’ time

Why does my Patio have Black Spots?

Australia’s varied climate can create the perfect conditions for organic staining to develop on outdoor stone surfaces. Humidity, rainfall, moisture and periods of warm weather can encourage the growth of black spots, algae, lichen and other organic staining, leaving natural stone patios looking dirty, weathered and neglected. Over time, these stains can become increasingly difficult to remove with everyday cleaning products, particularly when they become established within the porous surface of the stone.

From the moment stone is laid, tiny black lichen spores from the trees start to land. They sit dormant for 12 months. If not treated, they start a 2-year germination period where they start to feed off the minerals within the stone. By the beginning of the third year on a brand-new patio, you have spots appearing. Eventually, they take away the colour from the slab and ruin the appearance.

Pressure washing becomes less effective over time and speeds up the growth of lichen. When stone is pressure washed, it makes the stone more porous by opening the pores of the stone. This creates an ideal breeding ground for lichen and algae. It can also leave the stone susceptible to frost damage.

Once I’ve cleaned my Patio, how do I protect it?

Apply Patio Black Spot Preventer 11–12 months after using Patio Black Spot Remover. It’s recommended that this product is applied in spring each year to remove algae that has grown over the winter period. Algae will be removed within 3-5 days of application, without the need to pressure wash. The Preventer will also remove the lichen spores that have landed since you last treated it with Patio Black Spot Remover. This product will ensure the spots don’t return.

It helps maintain the results of your initial clean and keep your patio looking better for longer.

If you have brand new stonework and want to be proactive, apply Patio Black Spot Preventer within 6 months of the stone being laid. The Preventer specifically targets black lichen spores before they have the opportunity to develop.

Depending on the condition of your patio, you can re-treat the surface with Patio Black Spot Remover every few years, or whenever needed, to maintain a clean and fresh-looking surface.

How Do I Keep My Patio Clean?

To keep your patio looking its best, sweep away leaves and organic debris regularly to prevent them from sitting on the surface and contributing to staining. It's also important to remove algae and organic staining before it becomes established. Ensure adequate drainage to stop water from pooling on the surface. Reduce shaded areas by trimming back trees and hedges.

Is it easy to use?

With its easy spray, wait, and rinse application, treating your patio is straightforward and requires no complicated equipment or process.

Patio Black Spot Remover is also biodegradable and acid-free, making it a suitable option for treating a wide range of outdoor surfaces without using harsh acidic cleaners. Once the treated surface has been thoroughly rinsed, it is safe for pets once the treated surface has been rinsed.

FAQs

How much Patio Black Spot Remover should I apply?
For the best results, the surface should be thoroughly saturated with the product so that the treatment can reach and effectively treat the organic staining. Using too little product can reduce its effectiveness. When treating sloping or heavily riven surfaces, be aware of run-off and re-treat areas where necessary to ensure the surface receives sufficient coverage.

Is Patio Black Spot Remover biodegradable?
Yes. Patio Black Spot Remover is quickly and readily biodegradable. If diluted product is washed into soil, flower beds or lawns, it will break down rapidly. When used in its diluted state as directed, the product will not affect surrounding lawns or foliage.

What should I do if the product gets on my skin or in my eyes?
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and the respiratory tract during application. If the product comes into direct contact with the body, rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of water.

Can Patio Black Spot Remover be used around furniture and fabrics?
Care should be taken to prevent the product from coming into contact with fabrics and furnishings. Move or protect furniture and other belongings before application, and wear old clothing whilst applying the treatment.

Do I still need to pressure wash?
Yes. This product is designed to work alongside pressure washing by loosening stubborn dirt and organic staining first, allowing your pressure washer to clean more effectively with less effort.

How long should I leave the product on?
Leave Patio Cleaner on the surface for approximately 2 hours before pressure washing.

Can I use Patio Black Spot Remover on natural stone and concrete?
Yes. Patio Black Spot Remover is suitable for use on all stone types, including natural stone and concrete patios. We always recommend testing a small, inconspicuous area first before treating the entire surface.

Will it remove algae?
Yes. Patio Black Spot Remover removes stains caused by algae, mould, mildew, dirt, leaf stains, and other organic buildup. For heavily soiled patios, more than one treatment may be required. We recommend carrying out a test area first to determine how many applications are needed.

Is it safe for pets and plants?
As a precaution, keep pets away while applying the product, and whilst the product is neat on the surface. Once the surface has been thoroughly rinsed, it is immediately safe for pets to return.

Avoid spraying neat product directly onto plants or grass. Once rinsed, the runoff will not harm surrounding vegetation.
